Acoustic Routes

Dir. Jan Leman | 1992 | 100 min

Bert Jansch was the guitarist every player wanted to be. He and his contemporaries created music that remains an inspiration.

With Billy Connolly at the helm and an amazing cast of folk and bluies luminaries, Acoustic Routes tells the story of one of the world's most influential musicians, the Scottish guitarist and singer-songwriter Bert Jansch. With a grounding in raw blues and a bewildering guitar technique, Jansch fashioned sublime interpretations of traditional and roots music that made him a pivotal figure in the British folk revival of the '60s and '70s and a profound inluence on generations of musicians, including Bob Dylan, Jimmy Page, and Neil Young (who covered Bert's "Needle of Death" on his 2014 album A Letter Home). This is the digitally remastered and extended version of Acoustic Routes, released in 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the original film and in tribute to Bert Jansch, who died in 2011.
